History
Probably Alsace’s most famous wine, the Traminer came to us from the north of Italy and dates from the 16th century. The Gewurztraminer (literally spicy or musky Traminer) is a selection of the most fragrant Traminers and became known as Gewurztraminer towards 1950.
Location
Gewurztraminer Princes Abbés comes essentialy from our BOLLENBERG and BUX plots and young vines from our Grand Cru plots.
Wine-making
Slowly pressed using a pneumatic press, static settling of the must. Fermented in temperature controlled tuns from 1 to 4 months. Raised on the lees for about 6 to 8 months.
Tasting
The robe is golden yellow with light green reflections of good intensity. The disk is light, limpid, transparent. The wine has a youthful quality. The nose is pleasant, intense and reveals an overripe impression dominated by floral aromas, rose, litchi, passion fruit, spices. Aeration enhances the whole. The nose, pure and racy is seductive. The onset in the mouth is heavy, ample and tender. The alcohol support well bodied and one evolves on a medium with frank vivacity. The aroma range is intense, dominated by floral sent, rose, litchi, candied fruits, exotic fruits and spices. One perceives a hint of bitterness. The finish has a beautiful length of 8 “caudalies” with a persisting bitterness and a nice vivacity. The structure is rich and enjoyable.
